Martyn Thompson – Landscape Photographer
My name is Martyn Thompson and I was born in London, UK a long time ago. For as long as I can remember, I have always been interested in music and photography and striving for perfection and originality in both of these. I’ve worked for many years as a web developer, but after several redundancies and dead-end jobs, I have embarked on a re-invention and self-discovery mission fuelled by my passion for photography and my love of the natural world.
I moved to the village of San José in heart of the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata, Almería, Spain in May 2011 after visiting the area a number of times and becoming enchanted with its beauty. I love the rugged charm of the area in which I now live; the mountains, the desert and the sea all have an excellence unequalled by anywhere else I’ve ever seen. I know the Almería province reasonably well but I’m still learning things about it, almost everyday there is something new to discover – I hope life continues this way. I feel more at home here than anywhere else I’ve lived, though of course I still have to master the language!
I am so inspired by the diversity of the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata and the surrounding areas that I have set up a small company to run photography experiences in and around the area, sometimes combining them with other activities in collaboration with other like-minded companies & individuals. I am aiming to work at all levels of expertise and I have very much to offer those who would like to take part.
My mission is to offer the highest quality photography experiences whilst promoting a healthy respect for the surrounding environment and nature. This is something I’ve always cared about and along with the people that I share this respect of our world with, is very important to me – probably more so than earning a fortune through my work.
Most visitors flock to the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata during the summer months and whilst there is much to see and do, there is an ever-changing beauty at other times of the year also which I am looking to show people. People need to see that the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata is a beautiful place all year round. I believe that in sharing my love of the environment through what I do, I can inspire others and teach them to care about the world in which they live or the world that they visit for that matter.
Well that’s about it for my debut blog entry, I look forward to writing more in the coming months.
